Week 6 Spring 2024

Test tiles! Test tiles! Test tiles! This week was super exciting getting to bisque and glaze fire a bunch of test tiles and little cups to start developing a repertoire of glazes that I can rely on when firing bigger pieces! I tested out 4 glazes this week. 1 out of 4 knocked it out of the park, 1 needs to be refired with a different firing schedule, 1 needed to be thicker maybe, and the last one just isn't my favorite.

I am enjoying how these glazes interact with the porcelain i am using it seems to be a good fit so far. I plan to start throwing stands to use with catch basins so that i can start firing pieces to explore how the glaze moves and behaves on different forms and textures. So far ive fired one gourd piece and lined the bottom with a stiff white glaze to catch some of the runoff due to not yet having a catch basin for it.

Overall I am very happy with how these glazes are coming out and am excited to push it further with new glaze combinations as well as size differences in the pieces and crystals.
