Week 5 Spring 2024

Throw and trim, and throw and trim, and throw and trim. Exploring shapes and making glazes has been the majority of this week. I have discovered a multitude of base and full recipes for crystalline glaze that I am stoked to try out. I am planning to develop, through meticulous tests, my own crystalline glaze recipes that have a lower flow rate at cone 10 that will allow me to fire without glaze catchers!

I am excited to see how my glaze tests go in the coming week I will be firing test tiles and exploring different colorants to see how they affect the crystal growth. It will also be an interesting experiment to see how these glazes behave in the test kilns we have as I am not sure that they will make it to cone 9.

A piece of the clay mixer also popped up to say hello when I started to trim this pot. This next week will be full of (hopefully) wonderful surprises when the glazes hit the kiln for testing!

See you next week for updates!
