I made the triangle jar this week and found it was very meditative to build by hand this large! I have not really worked with hand building techniques like this before and since building this jar I think that I will continue to explore building with these methods. I am interested in how I can manipulate this form in my own way. I chose not to entirely smooth out the corners as I think they provide visual interest to the piece and work well with the form that I have created.

These are in progress photos of how the form took its shape.

I enjoyed the creation of the curvature of the piece, since I was using "belts" as coils it allowed me to shape the individual "rings" of the vase into a bow like curve while also having the interior curve on one side of the triangle without stressing out the clay too much.

I am excited to see how the crystalline glaze responds on this form. I will be refining the flat surfaces as the piece sets up and becomes leather hard to give a contrast between the smooth sides and rough corners.
Check back next week!
