Post 8 Fall 2024

My six-week review was this week! I am really excited with the progress I have made and am positive about the amount of work I have made and will start glaze firings in the coming weeks! Below is the reflection I wrote for my review:

I think the idea of presentation for my body form and corsets was well resolved in my presentation. Due to the fabric purchased I was not able to have a finished form for the review however using the form I have been creating the corsets on in the review allowed us to see how the final piece would function in the space. I believe I have an adequate amount of work at this point in the process which gives me the freedom to continue making more which will allow me to edit these pieces for my final presentation. I have further points to think about in reference to the final compilation of work regarding the clothing that will go on the forms underneath the corsets. I have to determine the organization and juxtaposition of forms next to each other in the gallery. From a technical standpoint I need a new presser foot for my sewing machine to create the body forms with the PVC fabric I purchased. We decided not to put the floor in the gallery as John and Todd decided that the concrete floor was adequate and not distracting from the work. I am aiming to have a projected video compilation of the corsets and other imagery in addition to the physical work however based on time restraints this is a tentative proposition. I will not need any pedestals from the gallery as I will be providing my own forms and will make a box for my projector in the event that it comes to fruition. I am continuing to make green work and propose to be done with green work by November 4th as that would provide me with 20 days to complete bisque and glaze firings. Within this time period I intend to do a few firings weekly including bisque and glaze firings whether that be in a test kiln or larger electric kiln. I have purchased the lighting proposed for the gallery and will install that whenever applicable, I am in the process of making and gathering some of the garments and all of the body forms and stands and will have those tentatively completed around November 18th as that will allow time for shipping of materials and completion of projects. I did not take individual images of all work provided in my review as I did not read that part of the assignment before breaking down my install however all work was laid out on tables to be presented as green bisque and semi-finished work as the kiln I’m able to use for crystalline firing requires a much larger amount of work than was feasible to fill before I solidified glaze recipes that were withstanding of reliable firing outcomes.

The following images were other setups that I had of works in progress!

See y'all next week! We have a long weekend so I will be back on Wednesday!
