Post 7 Fall 2024

What a week! I have made so much forward progress in my ideology for the BFA show. I have determined placement in the gallery and really solidified how I will be presenting the corsets to portray my message. I have sketched out and determined what pieces I will be completing and can continue to produce these pieces and create the forms and garments to go under the corsets.

In addition to these forms and corsets, I will be adding items of relevance to the wall behind these forms that further develop the themes of perception. I threw a few things this week to add behind some of my forms and will bisque them next week.

I am preparing for my 6-week review this Friday and writing my artist statement to get my point across to the people who view my show when I'm not in the gallery.

I have determined that an organized arrangement of body forms with salon-style wall pieces behind them allows for movement throughout the gallery in a way that when you are in the middle of the gallery you are faced by all of the forms. I am venturing into a realm of perception vs reality, but at the same time asking why can't I look like your stereotype and still be respected in the field I am functioning in. I plan to work towards finishing the corsets and start making my body forms this week as well as figuring out what stands I plan to put them on and how those will interact with my pieces.

I also changed out the elements in the test kiln this week and had to use a torch to get the old ones out as they were so fragile that they were breaking as I was trying to take them out so by heating them to red hot they became pliable again which allowed me to stretch them so that they wouldnt break or chip the soft brick as i was taking them out.

All in all I feel like im in a really good place this week and will update next week after my review!!
