Back again with another week of exciting firings!!! I am slowly working towards a palette of glazes that will all fire in the same kiln together! I fired a new glaze this week that has neodymium as a colorant and produces a lovely purple with grey crystals that turns a transparent purple when thick.

I am working this week towards developing how I will convey my concept in my corsetry pieces. I have bounced back and forth between imagery and words, and how I can show these parts without overcrowding the work as crystalline is busy on its own. I have been thinking about putting imagery on the inside of the corsets as it is an intimate experience to see the inside of a corset as that means it is not being worn which can symbolize many things.

I have also been experimenting with full corsets that will have front and back pieces and fully function on their own as a covering for the body. This week, I am interested in seeing how conveying my concept through crystalline on one side and imagery on the other would look on the work. There has also been much thought about how I will display these pieces in the gallery as they are pieces to be worn, though due to the length of the show, I will not be able to have models full time and due to the intimate nature of the corsets I think that having another person wear them would stray from my concept. I have been thinking about using dress forms or half dress forms more commonly used to display corsets. Through these next two weeks leading up to my 6 week review these thoughts will be on the forefront of my list of tasks while I crank out more corsets.

See y'all next week!
